The drought in the Horn of Africa is now being called, "the world's worst humanitarian disaster". Currently, over 11 million people are at risk of starvation. This is considered the worst drought in the past 60 years. Almost 40% of the drought victims are children under the age of five. People are walking for days to reach emergency food centers. Some are dying before reaching their destination. Many are too weak to even make the trip. I hope by now, this news is very uncomfortable to you.... it literally makes me sick.
I have been following this devastating situation for weeks now. This morning as I began searching for the latest update, I was shocked to find that the poor folks of Africa had taken a back seat in the news to politics in Washington. Apparently, our president made a speech last night that stirred up a bunch of folks. Whatever... I missed that.
Anyhow, in the meantime, I ran across the following article written by Richard Stearns, president of World Vision. Please take a minute or two and read what he has to say about the drought, Africa, Christians, Jesus and Casey Anthony.
Tonight when you sit at your dinner table with your family and thank God for your food, please pray for food and water for the 11 million plus starving in the Horn of Africa today. Then ask Him how He wants to use YOU to keep His children alive.
At the bottom of Richard's post, I have listed a few organizations you can donate to in order to get food to Africa.
